Aims

Parish Pastoral Ministers within Brisbane Archdiocese have formed an Association whose aims are:

 

 

Pastoral Ministers

 

Parish Pastoral Ministers are men and women, religious or lay persons, who work on a full-time or part-time professional basis in parishes or pastoral areas.  They are known under one of three titles:

(a) Pastoral Director

A pastoral director is a person, other than a priest, who is entrusted with the leadership and pastoral care of a parish community, as specified by a diocesan bishop in accordance with Canon 517#2.This person exercises a leadership role of responsibility for the day to day operations of a parish community, in partnership with a pastor-supervisor designated by the Archbishop.

This person will be responsible for the normal pastoral and administrative duties of the pastoral community, as specified by the diocesan bishop, with the exception of those duties and responsibilities reserved in general to an ordained priest or in particular to the pastor-supervisor.

(b) Pastoral Associate

A pastoral associate is a person who assists a pastor or pastoral director in the leadership of a parish and who shares the responsibility for pastoral care of a parish or pastoral area.  A pastoral associate will normally be responsible for the co-ordination of a number of areas of pastoral ministry.

(c)  Pastoral Ministry Coordinator

A person employed by a parish or pastoral area, under the direction of a pastor or pastoral director, to coordinate one (or more) particular pastoral activity such a liturgy, youth ministry, catechetics, sacramental programmes, music etc.

2008 Executive Team

The Association has an Executive, of 4 to 6 members who serve a two year term, as far a possible. If possible, half the executive changes each year, to ensure continuity. Each year the group discerns a structure to serve the association which includes:

In case of resignation, a replacement co-opted by the Executive will fill the vacant position.

It is the role of the Executive of the Association to co-ordinate all the activities of the Association, including:
