Christians in Dialogue
The Christians in Dialogue program grew
out of a parish level discussion program between Anglicans and Roman Catholics
in Brisbane on the BEM (Baptism, Eucharist, Ministry) document which was
published by the World Council of Churches Faith and Order Commission in 1982.
This program was so successful that the Archbishops of the Anglican and Catholic Churches wanted the discussions to become an annual event. The Leaders invited the Lutheran and Uniting Churches to join with them in the annual discussion. The invitation has been extended to many Christian Churches to participate since then.
An Ecumenical planning group was appointed to prepare material each year and to promote its use. They set out to provide the participants with resource materials which would help the participants to come to:
- a greater knowledge and understanding of their own church tradition
- an increased knowledge of and respect for the traditions of the other churches and
- a greater awareness of what unites and what divides the traditions.
