Archdiocese confirms priest facing charges

The Archdiocese can confirm that a priest of the Archdiocese, Fr Neil Byrne, appeared in court yesterday on charges relating to possession of child exploitation
material.

Archbishop Bathersby has relieved Fr Byrne of all public ministry duties pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.

The safety of children is paramount and the Archdiocese is co-operating fully with the police in their investigation.

The Archdiocese does not know the extent of the allegations but encourages anyone who has concerns to contact the police directly.

All staff will be doing everything possible to maintain the ongoing pastoral care and education of the parish and school communities effected during this difficult time.
