Honourable service to country remembered

On ANZAC day, above all days, we remember and pay homage to the Australian men and women who died or suffered in the great tragedy of war. We remember not only the original ANZACs, but all who fought for our country.

The ANZAC Day Mass has been held for many years and features the participation of many war veterans and their families.  As these numbers decrease, we wish to keep the celebration alive as we give thanks for the dedication and selflessness of so many who have given their lives in service to our country.

Archbishop Bathersby celebrates the Mass each year, and perhaps it will more poignant this year given his own pending retirement age means it is likely to be one of last he presides at. His own father was a veteran of the battle at Milne Bay in World War II.  He will be honoured by the presence of Her Excellency, Governor Penelope Wensley, representatives from all levels of Government and the Australian Defence Forces.

Veterans and their families, as well all current serving defence personnel and their families are warmly invited to the Mass.

Those who are attending the ANZAC civic commemoration should comfortably be able to attend this Mass first and then proceed onto the march.
