Cathedral Services over the coming days

03/04/2005

Archbishop John Bathersby, Archbishop of Brisbane, has announced three days of mourning and prayer for the late Pontiff, starting Monday 4 April.

While all parishes will organise their own ceremonies, the Cathedral of St. Stephen will be the focus of these three days. In particular, Mass will be celebrated at 8.00 a.m., 10.00 a.m., 12.30 p.m., 5.10 p.m. and 7.00 p.m. using the Rites of the Church, praying for the eternal rest of a deceased Pope.

On Thursday 7 April at 10.00am the Archbishop will celebrate a solemn Requiem Mass for the Pope. Civic and church leaders have been invited to join with Catholics in this major event.

On Wednesday 6 April at 7.00pm the diocese will celebrate solemn Evening Prayer and Vigil in St Stepehen's Cathedral for those who cannot attend the Thursday morning Mass.

A book for messages of condolence and remembrance will be available for the public to sign near the front entrance of St Stephen’s Cathedral.

From Monday 4 April until Wednesday 6 April the Cathedral will be open from 7.30am until 8.00pm for people to visit and pray.
