Monsignor Robert McGuckin, until now Vicar General and Moderator of the Parramatta Diocese, has been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI to become the sixth Bishop of Toowoomba.

Brisbane Archdiocese receives its new Archbishop
Archbishop elect Mark Coleridge
The Most Reverend Mark Coleridge was installed as the sixth Archbishop of Brisbane during a Solemn Mass and Liturgical Reception held at the Cathedral of St Stephen on May 11.

Pope appoints Archbishop Mark Coleridge as Metropolitan Archbishop of Brisbane Archbishop elect Mark Coleridge portrait

Pope Benedict XVI has announced the appointment of Most Rev Mark Coleridge, until now Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn, as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Brisbane. The Apostolic Administrator, Bishop Geoffrey Jarrett, has warmly welcomed the appointment.

Education head flags he will step down in 12 months
David Hutton
The Executive Officer of Brisbane Catholic Education, Mr David Hutton, has flagged his intention to retire after 28 years of service to education, 14 as its chief executive. A process of selecting a successor will now commence, with Mr Hutton anticipating to remain in place until January 2013.

Archdiocesan priest in court hearing

Legal system
An archdiocesan priest has appeared in court and pleaded guilty to charges involving child-exploitation material. The Apostolic Administrator, Most Rev Geoffrey Jarrett, has revoked the authorisations the priest needs to minister publicly or privately and apologised to the communities where he previously ministered for any confusion and anger experienced as a result of the priest's actions.
